WKFA CLASS – ARTEFACTS
On WEDNESDAY we went up the Peninsular road to Willie Creek turn off with Baldy Lawford, Pius Gregory and Mr. Sean.
Pius showed us the right tree for making spear. We make the spears out of wattle tree.
We cut them down with an axe. All we could hear in the bush was the thwacking of axes.
After we cut it down we stripped off the bark.
We then cut one end into a point to shape the spearhead.
We drove off that country back to camp and lit a fire.
Pius showed us how to heat the spear on the fire and bend it to make it straight.
We used file and sandpaper to make the wood smooth and straight.
It was too deadly going bush and learning about culture.
