MIDWEST CLAIM WADJEMUP CUP

The Midwest Football Academy added a Wadjemup Cup 22-days after taking the Harmony Fields Trophy back to Geraldton to dominate the Clontarf Foundation´s Perth Year 8-10 tournaments to wrap up 2009.

Yule Brook (Maddington, Perth), Clontarf (Perth), Gilmore (Perth) and WAs latest addition Roebourne Football Academy made up the five-team tournament held on Saturday, November 14 played in perfect conditions on Rottnest Island (Wadjemup).

It is the first time any Academy has achieved this double and it is not surprising to anyone who has seen this team play. The boys from Geraldton play tremendous team football with flair, passion and enthusiasm, qualities present in all great Clontarf Foundation teams of the past.

And yes, the team has a sprinkling of genuine stars who will no doubt make some waves in the football world down the track.

Coached by ex-Midwest Academy graduate Calib Jones and Justin Mallard, the team is disciplined, well-drilled and always prepared to put a teammate ahead of themselves.

Yule Brook were once again defeated in the Grand Final on this occasion by a respectable 18-points after a heated opening. When the teams met for the opening clash of the day, the tempo was as fast as you will see for Year 10 football in Australia and a genuine football rivalry is alive.

Clontarf were very competitive and pushed Midwest to a 4-point game and missed out of the Grand Final by percentage. Gilmore have improved a great deal in two-years and debutant Academy Roebourne showed promise for the future in the tough world of Clontarf Football.

All participants withheld the Clontarf Spirit and played with true sportsmanship overriding anything, a quality taken which makes involvement in the Clontarf Foundation so very special and should never be taken for granted.
