MIDWEST LIFTS WADJEMUP CUP

Undefeated throughout the carnival after a couple of close games that could have gone either way, the Midwest Tigers claim bragging rights for the year.

The boys headed to Perth at lunchtime on Thursday and were treated to dinner Hans Cafe and a movie. The food was great as always but the movie didn’t go down to well, we are still wondering who picked that one!

Next day the boys had a chance to do some shopping at Garden City before jumping on the ferry to Rottnest. We all had a BBQ on the beach and all Academies had a welcome to country by a local elder.

Later, Academy members were treated to the sounds of Dave (Tiger) Reagan and a performance by Aboriginal Dancers which was enjoyed by all.

Special mention to Karl Pirrotina whose talent never ends with his trademark Harmonica sounds and Elvis impersonation.
On Saturday it was down to business with our boys opening the account with a tough win over Yule Brook.

The next game against Clontarf was a close one with the boys starting slowly and the Clontarf boys getting the jump. By half-time we were down by five goals. The players regrouped and piled on the goals in the second half to win a blockbuster by 12 points. The winning continued against Kwinana and we had booked our spot in the Grand Final.

The Grand Final went back and forth with Yule Brook playing great football and our boys doing the same. The game was great to watch for everyone as there was no real winner until the siren sounded and the Midwest Tigers came out victorious.
There were some awesome individual displays from our players but it was a team effort that made the win possible.

Best player in the Grand Final went to Daniel Barnard who ran the ball outside of the middle with speed and never stopped running. Jack Martin put in another workman like effort all day which he was then recognised with our best player for the carnival.

The boys watched a movie that night at the Rottnest cinema before making our way back to the barracks. We had to rise early for breakfast and to catch the ferry back to the mainland.

We loaded the bus and had a quick stop at the Wanneroo markets to get the boys some lunch then headed home with our usual stop at Moore River to eat.

We made it home safe and sound and the trophy was in one piece. A great effort by all the Midwest Academy members made the weekend one to remember.
