MOOCHIE THE MAN

Lewis Broome, affectionately known as Moochie, has been drafted at pick 11 by the West Coast Eagles via the 2009 AFL Rookie Draft.

Originally from Looma community in the Kimberley, Moochie became the 17th Clontarf Foundation member drafted since 2000 and the 15th from Clontarf Academy (Waterford, Perth) with Troy Taylor from Centralian (Alice Springs), Lewis Jetta from South West (Bunbury) and Gerrick Weedon being claimed by both the West Kimberley Academy and Clontarf Academy after spending time across the two.

A lightning fast and nimble midfielder, Lewy caught the eye of AFL recruiters with a fine finals performance playing for Claremont, including a 5-goal display in the Grand final to grab the Mel Whinnen Medal for best afield.

Not just an outstanding talent, Lewy also has a mature head on his shoulders. He shows good leadership, is positive, works hard at his game, is a team player and an all-round nice guy – something recruiters look at as much as the statistics column.

Thanks must be given to everyone who helped Moochie along the way, whether it be Clontarf staff, the Claremont Football Club, Teachers and Hostel staff. Your combined efforts have been enormous.

To Lewy Broome: Well done mate, you deserve your opportunity and we wish you all the best.
