Obviously these carnivals wouldn’t happen without partners and volunteers. First and foremost, thank you to BHP Nickel West, who provide some funding for the carnival as well as a host of volunteers to supply the complimentary BBQ that they provide on both days.
Special thanks must go to Nickel West’s Brenden Ah-kim and his bunch of BBQ helpers. Neil & Roberta McBroom from the Touch Association also needs to be commended for his help over the weekend. Neil & Roberta were first there each day, to open the club rooms and last to leave, as well as running the ever popular kiosk.
With approximately 300 players and support staff, combined with over 150 spectators, the Nickel West Cup has become a massive event to both set up and run. Therefore thanks must go to the Goldfields Clontarf Academy staff as well as the fantastic backing they get from the staff at the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community High School and Eastern Goldfields College.
Over 25 staff from both campuses volunteered their time over the weekend to support the boys and to help ensure the carnival ran smoothly. At the end of each game Best Player votes were awarded and these were compiled at the end of the carnival to determine the Fairest and Best Players in each division. These players were awarded a medallion; supplied by, Nickel West to mark their achievement.
Division 1 – Fairest and Best – Sharzah Kelly (Midwest Tigers)
Runner Up – Jack Martin (Clontarf Dugites)
Division 2 – Fairest and Best – Eddie Worrell (Gilmore Warrdongs)
Runners Up – Taine Wilson (Seven Oaks) & Morris Sampi (South East Stingrays)
Division 3 – Fairest and Best – Timmy Yorkshire (Clontarf Swans)
Runners Up – Tommy Nickels (Northam), Braylen Indich (Goldfields) & Bradman Collard (Northam)
On top of these awards 24 boys were rewarded for their achievements over the weekend with selection in the All-Star team. These boys were presented with an All-Stars shirt provided by Nickel West, by Brenden Ah-kim (Nickel West) and Brad Puls (Clontarf Foundation).
