Harmony Fields Cup

CUP HEADS MIDWEST

Midwest claimed the 2009 Harmony Fields Cup with a stirring 8-point vistory over defending champions Yule Brook. The game was outstanding and the Geraldton boys kicked a goal in the final seconds to remain undefeated and lift the second Harmony Cup.

Midwest midfields Jack Martin was named best on ground in the final after an outstanding carnival for the Tigers. Coaches Dale Baynes and Justin Mallard ensured the Tigers were undefeated the team in the Year 8, 9  and 10 carnival after holding off challenges from Clontarf (Waterford), Gilmore (Kwinana) and Great Southern (Albany).

The carinval was opened by local Noongar elder Eddie Brown Snr and was hosted by Yule Brook College. Harmony Fields are located in Maddington and two ovals and great weather provided a perfect setting for some scintilating Clontarf Foundation football.

During the lunch break a long-bomb kicking and 100m sprint events were held. Midwest swept both of these with Nathaniel Mourambine roosting the Burley 58 metres and Zade Connell finishing first in the sprint.

In true Clontarf stlye all games were played with tremedous spirit, pride and mateship. Congratualtions to Craig Callaghan and Darcy Coffey for a well organised event for a second year in a row. The Cup will now head north but next year will be equally competitive and a great chance for the youngsters to play a carnival  in the term 4 calender.
